'October Sky' is an excellent mid-sized native grass with brilliant rosy purple seedheads for a fantastic fall display
Seedheads have more purple color than 'Apache Rose', which is rosy-red while in bloom. 'October Sky' is also a larger plant than 'Apache Rose', standing about a foot taller
Overall the plant has an elegant upright shape, comprising of blue-green leaves. Compared with 'Northwind', 'October Sky' is more sturdy and less prone to opening up or collapsing later in the season.
Native ornamental grass appears like a Miscanthus in the landscape with arching foliage, but adds the powder blue color characteristic of Switch Grass
